Gonna catch a freight train as far as I can Lord
I don't care which way it goes
Gonna climb a mountain, the highest mountain Lord
Jump off ain't nobody gonna know
Can't you see, oh can't you see
What that woman's been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman's been doin' to me?
Gonna buy a ticket go as far as I can Lord
I ain't never coming back
Take me a southbound all the way down Lord
Till the train run out of track
Can't you see, oh can't you see
What that woman's been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman's been doin' to me?
Can't you see, oh can't you see
What that woman's been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman's been doin' to me?
The lyrics to Waylon & The Waymore Blues Band's song "Can't You See" depict a man at the end of his rope, driven to desperation by the pain caused by a woman he loves. The first verse describes his plan to escape his torment by hopping a freight train and leaving his troubles behind, no matter where the train may take him. He is so consumed by his anguish that he even considers ending his life by jumping off the highest mountain he can find.
The chorus repeatedly asks the listener if they can see what this woman has done to him. It's clear that he is trying to communicate the depth of his despair to someone, anyone who will listen. In the second verse, he describes buying a one-way ticket as far away as possible, never to return. He calls for a southbound train to take him as far as it can until it reaches its final stop. It's a cry for help in the only way he knows how.
In summary, "Can't You See" is about a man who has been irreparably damaged by a woman he loves, and the only way he knows how to cope is to run away from it all. He asks the listener repeatedly to "see" what she has done to him in hopes of finding solace in someone else's understanding.
